Finnish Delight Salmiakki

Finnish Delight Salmiakki

The door knocked on a frightful Sunday evening, his watch beeped as an hour had passed and reached eight pm. The mind was rushing to know who or what might be knocking behind that shadowy door. When he slowly approached the lock set of the door, a sudden scream came from the other room and the sister rushed towards the door to stop him.

Dorji, Why don´t you go study or do something productive. I will take care of the door”, her body soaked in sweat as Dorji went to sit back to the his deathbed sofa

He watched her open the door and in front he saw a man of tall black figure. He could not see well but the eyes of that stranger, small tributaries of blood was filled. Who whispers were of like that of a demon chanting spells, The sister gave a worried look and the man gave her a box that was wrapped with pitch black sellotape.

The mind rushed again as curiosity began to fill the room, The man tipped his hat and left, sister locked the door with her fragile hand. Not a word to be uttered and not a sound to be made, she went to her room with the box that was the devil´s gift.

Dorji curious yet cautious, stood from his death bed and decided to go take a peek. The footsteps made gentle flapping sound, he approached his sister´s door. When the journey was half done like a snail loading in his desktop on a 2G internet speed. The scream again repeated, the same scream that was like a dog desperately trying to puke a fur ball out of it´s throat. Dorji was a fireman to the rescue and as he kicked the door in hurry. There it was his sister fallen to the ground, the evil box just near her thighs.

Sister! Sister! What happen?”, he yelled with his sister in his hands. His sister weak and weary could only find the courage to open her eyes and she pointed at the box. Which was filled with diamond shaped candy like tablets. To inspect it he licked one and he too fell to the ground, both stayed silent for a while.

Not dead but not alive either,“why would you order this many Salmiakki if you can´t eat even one?”. Screamed Dorji to his fallen sister. The only word that came out of her lip was “Sorry”.

About the story

Salmiakki is a Finnish delight candy that comes in many shapes and sizes, they are sweet, salty yet bitter kind of taste while ingested. Finland people love it a lot but I always found it unbearable to even smell it. My sister had brought some after coming back from Finland and I exaggerated pretending to die when I ate the Finnish delight. If you want to try Salmiakki you can order it from online or if you happen to live in Finland, you can never miss it because it is sold in almost every shop you can find.
